    THE DISCOLORATION IS A NORMAL PART OF THE HARDENING PROCESS AND IS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF HIGH END AGMA GRADE 13 GEAR.
    BECAUSE OF THE GRADE OF STAINLESS AND THE SPECIAL HARDENING PROCESS THESE GEARS ARE EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE IN THE REAL WORLD. MINE ARE JUST A FRACTION OF THE COST OF BRAND NEW. BELOW IS SOME INFO ON THE PH HARDENING.

    For sale are some very high precision
    hardened
    stainless steel gears.  17-4 series stainless steel. These are the same gears that are used for laboratory instrumentation and avionics. These have a stainless set screw.
    These will be
    rolled in
    bubble wrap to protect the teeth from damage
    These would never be placed together so that the teeth would scratch one another.
    These are now stored in our lab office in cabinets.
